hello world

Stanley Erasmus Wood Achter was born Wednesday, May 30. Woo hoo!!!!

The long and short of it: Carla went to the clinic for an appointment and the doctor decided that her blood pressure was borderline high. Since the baby (aka Prince Clementine) was already full term plus, they decided to induce labor. Hah! We didn't envision it happening this way, but everything has turned out wonderfully.

Special thanks to MG for providing ice cubes and encouragement during the crucial final hours of labor!!

Stanley weighed in at 8 lbs., 10 oz. and was 20 inches long. He has his dad's toes and his mom's nose. Both are good things.

name board

Everyone wants to know what we're naming the child, which is understandable. Having a kid is a community event, which is the only way to explain why strangers would come up to you and touch your belly. Anyway, naming is serious business.

Well, sort of serious. When we asked friends, family, and students of ours about names, nobody hesitated: Oscar, i-Kid, Landon, Reichen (of TV's "The Amazing Race"), Ramon, Constantine, Pharaoh, Monkey, Horace, Silas, Clive, Clydell, Lazarus, Ephraim, Hugh, Elwood, General, Buford. Since we already have a baby named Buford (seen in the pic w/C below) we ruled it out.

In lieu of a real name, we call him the prince, Prince Clementine.

thirty three weeks

Prince Clementine, in utero.
